One of the nation’s leading gerontologists, Kerry serves as an expert on aging and social isolation. She was recognized for her work by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2011 (U.S. Victims of Crime Award) and founded Ageless Alliance in 2012, a non-profit to address elder abuse. After serving as a Professor of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at the University of California Irvine, Kerry joined GrandPad to use technology to combat one of the most significant risk factors for elders: social isolation.

Dina Katabi, a MacArthur fellow, designs new wireless devices that use machine learning to learn how people walk, measure their gait and detect elderly falls. The device also measures a person’s breathing, heart rate and sleep quality using wireless signals, without any sensor on the person’s body. Katabi is working with medical doctors and pharmaceutical companies to use her technology to detect health emergencies and provide a better understanding of chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
