Melanie Bella MBA

Ms. Bella has spent her career transforming care for complex and costly populations including in her current role at Cityblock, a care delivery company built for low-income urban populations with complex needs. Before Cityblock, Ms. Bella served as the first Director of the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office at CMS. Under her leadership, CMS designed and launched demonstrations across the country to test new delivery and payment models in community and institutional settings. Ms. Bella earned her MBA from Harvard.

Don Berwick is one of the top thinkers in healthcare today and sees tremendous unrealized potential in American medicine. Dr. Berwick served as Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (7/2010-12/2011), and was the founding CEO of IHI, a nonprofit dedicated to improving healthcare around the world. He has served on the faculties of the Harvard’sMedical School and School of Public Health and serves as an advisor to Google Deep Mind Health, among others.

As Segment President of Humana EDGE, Beth is responsible for creating a new operating model and member experience that reduces friction in the system and helps members engage in and manage their health. Beth began her career at Humana in 2001 and her efforts helped position Humana as a leader in consumerism. Beth published Engage! A Guide to Involving Your Consumers in their Health in 2007 and she earned a master’s in public management, graduating with highest honors, from Carnegie Mellon University.

Dr. Alice Bonner has been a geriatric nurse practitioner caring for older adults for over 30 years. Prior to joining the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Bonner served as Secretary of Elder Affairs for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over three years. She previously directed the Division of Nursing Homes for CMS in Baltimore (2011-2013) and the Bureau of Health Care Safety and Quality at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (2009-2011).

Kerry Burnight PhD

One of the nation’s leading gerontologists, Kerry serves as an expert on aging and social isolation. She was recognized for her work by the U.S. Department of Justice in 2011 (U.S. Victims of Crime Award) and founded Ageless Alliance in 2012, a non-profit to address elder abuse. After serving as a Professor of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at the University of California Irvine, Kerry joined GrandPad to use technology to combat one of the most significant risk factors for elders: social isolation.

Dina Katabi PhD
Director, MIT’s Center for Wireless Networks and Mobile Computing

Dina Katabi, a MacArthur fellow, designs new wireless devices that use machine learning to learn how people walk, measure their gait and detect elderly falls. The device also measures a person’s breathing, heart rate and sleep quality using wireless signals, without any sensor on the person’s body. Katabi is working with medical doctors and pharmaceutical companies to use her technology to detect health emergencies and provide a better understanding of chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Several startups have spun out of her lab including PiCharging and Emerald.

Tim Lash oversees the development and execution of West Health’s lowering the cost of healthcare and successful aging portfolio across its nonprofit, nonpartisan outcomes-based philanthropy, applied medical research and policy organizations. Lash has extensive experience in shaping and advancing innovative and disruptive healthcare models, establishing collaborations across a diverse group of stakeholders and organizations, creating new growth platform strategies, and executing acquisitions/equity investments. Libby is the author of An American Sickness: How Healthcare became Big Business and How You Can Take it Back, published by Penguin Random House in April 2017. She is a graduate of Stanford and Harvard Medical School and briefly practiced medicine before converting to journalism.

Laurance Stuntz is the Director of the Massachusetts eHealth Institute. He is an experienced and passionate leader working to help Massachusetts leverage digital health innovation for better economic and care delivery outcomes. MeHI is a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and is the Commonwealth’s entity for health care innovation, technology, and competitiveness, and supports the Massachusetts Digital Health Initiative. Prior to joining MeHI, Laurance worked for 25 years in healthcare information technology product development, systems integration, and management consulting. He serves as a member of the Massachusetts Health Information Technology Council, the Governor’s Digital Health Council, and the Board of Advisors for MassChallenge HealthTech.

Victor is CEO of care.coach and PI on multiple federal grants from Congress and the NIH to further develop and commercialize the care.coach human-in-the-loop avatar platform. The platform has been shown to significantly reduce loneliness in older adults, reduce falls and delirium among hospitalized elders by 80%+, and reduce cost of care in the community, all by building psychosocially supportive relationships with patients via avatar. Victor has a Master’s from MIT, where he worked on NASA-sponsored human-machine interaction and telerobotics research.
